Bats and other animals use Echolocation; there are also research papers about humans Echolocation. Blind players are primarily exempt from video games and can only play audio games designed to be in 3D space, like A Blind Legends and other similar games in Google Play Store and App Store. Echolocation in 2D platformer addresses the use of a different setting which is 2D space, to introduce to the blind players, with a 2D space far from the 3D space-like world the players are navigating and playing a game in a different space in a virtual environment.
With the use of the Raycast2D and Audio Source component in Unity, the researchers have imitated the Echolocation by emitting a sound through a button and the game objects emitting continuous sounds in their area of effect.
During the simulation, all types of game objects were either collected or defeated. The total collectibles collected by both participants is 5. The players were also able to move through all the scenes and finish the game. Where participant A finished Level 1 in one minute and thirty-seven seconds (1:37:03) and Level 2 in 3 minutes and thirty-three seconds (3:33:91) and participant B can complete Level 1 in two minutes and fifty-seven seconds(2:57:30) and Level 2 in five minutes and one second (5:01:37). When asked if they could identify the unique sound with Echolocation, the participants answered yes. The participants also agreed that the wall Doppler’s helped them identify moments where they had to jump because there was a wall barrier preventing them from moving. Through jumping, they can move forward and continue the game.
